Reading the quote correctly

The 0.80-point spread between bid and ask is not the daily index change. Bid is the displayed buying price, ask the selling price, and last records the latest reported transaction. The 2,088.60 settlement reference is separate again. Reporting any of those as the current TSX Composite cash index would describe the wrong instrument.

The last trade stood 9.10 points below the high and 1.20 points above the low. The daily net increase therefore coexisted with a retreat within the futures session.

Which market is open?

The exchange’s SXF specification lists an early session ending at 09:15 Eastern, followed by a regular session from 09:30. Its September 30 banner concerns closure of the interest-rate derivatives market; it should not be generalized to all Canadian instruments. The SXF quote page itself showed current index-futures activity.

See the US broad-index futures report for a separate North American comparison.
