Western Alliance Bancorporation reported third-quarter net income of $277.2 million and diluted earnings per share of $2.45. The October 19 release compares those figures with $260.5 million and $2.28 a year earlier.
The practical question is whether improved profitability came with a stronger lending spread and better credit performance. The release shows progress on both measures, alongside continued provisioning rather than the disappearance of credit risk.
The accompanying Form 8-K, Item 2.02, identifies the October 19, 2026 earnings announcement and furnishes the release as Exhibit 99.1. The cover report and release belong to the same issuer announcement; they are not independent corroboration or a separate audited financial statement.
Margin improves as interest income grows

| Reporting period | Quarter ended September 30, 2026 | Issuer release |
| Net income | $277.2 million; $260.5 million in Q3 2025 | Issuer release |
| Diluted EPS | $2.45; $2.28 in Q3 2025 | Issuer release |
| Net interest margin | 3.57%; 3.53% in Q2 2026 and Q3 2025 | Issuer release |
| Provision for credit losses | $80.0 million | Issuer release |
| Nonaccrual loans | $485 million; down $77 million from June 30 | Issuer release |
Net interest margin increased to 3.57%, from 3.53% in both the preceding quarter and the year-earlier quarter. That four-basis-point rise equals 0.04 percentage points; it is not a four-percentage-point jump.
Net interest income—the difference between interest earned and interest paid—was $807.6 million, compared with $796.9 million in the second quarter. The bank attributed the sequential increase mainly to higher asset yields and average held-for-investment loan balances, partly offset by funding costs and balance changes.
Lower troubled loans do not remove reserve needs
Nonaccrual loans declined by $77 million from June 30 to $485 million. These are loans on which the bank is no longer recognizing interest in the usual way, so their movement is a useful credit-quality signal rather than a measure of new revenue.
The bank still recorded an $80 million credit-loss provision. Its allowance coverage of nonaccrual loans increased to 118% from 96% in the previous quarter. An allowance is an accounting buffer against expected losses, not a guarantee that every exposure will be recovered.
Reported earnings, margin and reserve coverage should be read together. None, in isolation, proves that future losses will decline or that the shares offer an assured return. Future releases can be compared on the same basis to see whether the improvement lasts.
