Facebook is rolling out a feature called Your algorithm that lets users add and manage topics they want to see in Feed and Reels. Meta’s October 13, 2026 announcement says people can state their interests in their own words, and its recommendation systems will respond within the same session. The practical change is a more direct way to tell Facebook what content a person wants, rather than relying only on inferred preferences from earlier activity.
How Meta says the controls work
| Measure | Official figure or status |
|---|---|
| Announcement date | October 13, 2026 |
| Content covered | Facebook Feed and Reels |
| Where to look | Updated three-dot menu on posts |
| Topic preferences | Add and manage interests in free-form text |
| Other feedback | Interested and Not interested may prompt follow-up questions |
| Availability | Rolling out; universal account availability not established |
Meta says the updated three-dot menu makes the controls easier to find. After a person selects Interested or Not interested, Facebook may ask for more detail about what they liked or disliked. That follow-up is described as a possible prompt, not something guaranteed to appear on every post. Your algorithm is a separate space for managing topics directly.
A preference signal is not a promise of reach
Meta attributes the change to large language models that can interpret the interests, context and intent behind natural-language feedback. The announcement says recommendation ranking also uses signals from what people like, comment on and watch. Meta links its transparency reference for background; that reference is not separate proof of the new rollout. The new announcement does not say that one typed preference overrides every other ranking factor, or that users will never encounter unwanted content again.
For businesses and publishers, these are reader-side content controls—not a paid advertising product or a guaranteed distribution tool. It would be misleading to claim that writing a particular keyword now ensures an article reaches everyone interested in that subject. CapKet has not independently measured recommendation quality or tested availability across regions and accounts.
What readers can verify next
Check the updated post menu in your own Facebook account for the feature. Meta describes a rollout but does not provide a complete country-by-country, language-by-language or account eligibility list in this announcement. Missing controls should not be interpreted as proof that an account is broken. Future availability details and actual changes in an individual’s recommendations remain separate checks.
