ExxonMobil reported third-quarter 2026 earnings of $15.413 billion, or $3.72 per diluted share, in its 30 October announcement. Adjusted earnings were higher at $17.505 billion, or $4.23 per share.
The company also announced plans for $20 billion of share repurchases in 2027, assuming reasonable market conditions. That is a forward-looking capital-return plan, not purchases already completed.

Reported and adjusted profit answer different questions
Adjusted earnings remove identified non-operational items and estimated timing effects under ExxonMobil’s own definition. The measure supplements its US GAAP earnings; it does not replace them. The release includes the reconciliation, so the $2.092 billion gap should not be treated as additional cash generated.
Operating cash flow was $25.7 billion, while the company’s free-cash-flow measure was $19.1 billion. These are cash measures rather than another version of accounting profit. They should be read beside the investment and financing disclosures, not added to earnings.
Dividend dates are separate from the buyback plan
The declared fourth-quarter dividend is $1.07 per common share, payable on 10 December to shareholders of record at the close of business on 16 November. The announcement does not establish a guaranteed investment return or an after-tax receipt for any reader.
ExxonMobil said third-quarter shareholder distributions totaled $9.4 billion, including $4.3 billion in dividends and $5.1 billion in repurchases. Those completed-quarter amounts are separate from the conditional 2027 plan.
What to watch
Watch subsequent repurchase disclosures and the stated dividend timetable. Market conditions can affect future buybacks; no share-price outcome is established.
