SEBI’s October 1 circular introduces a phased schedule for investor-awareness messages on stock-broker websites and trading apps under Project Jagrook. The key distinction is that website requirements start on October 5, while the mandatory alternating schedule for apps begins on November 1.
October 5–31: websites and apps differ
During this period, brokers must display the messages supplied by SEBI alongside the existing risk disclosures on their websites.
On trading apps, displaying the new awareness messages is voluntary during the same period. If a broker chooses to show them on a particular day, displaying the risk disclosures on that app is optional for that day. This is a conditional transition arrangement, not a general withdrawal of risk disclosures.
From November 1: the app schedule becomes mandatory
Trading apps must display the specified awareness messages and risk disclosures on alternate days. The awareness messages must appear on the app’s landing page. Broker websites must show the specified awareness messages on their landing pages from that date.
The circular leaves the other provisions of SEBI’s May 19, 2023 risk-disclosure circular unchanged. Exchanges and depositories are also directed to circulate the new requirements and display SEBI’s awareness messages without alteration.
What investors should take from it
CapKet explanation: An awareness banner is educational material, not a recommendation to place a trade or evidence that a product is suitable for you. Read it alongside the actual product terms and risk disclosures rather than treating its presence as a safety guarantee.
A website view and an app view may differ during October without that difference alone establishing non-compliance. The applicable date and the channel matter. CapKet has not inspected individual brokers’ implementation or received confirmation of their compliance.
For a separate date-related market check, our NSE October 2 holiday guide explains the next scheduled cash-equity session; it does not determine this circular’s implementation timetable.
