NSE’s cash-equity market is scheduled to remain closed on Friday, October 2, 2026. The exchange’s official capital-market calendar lists the date as the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti trading holiday.
With October 3 and 4 falling on the weekend, the next scheduled regular equities session is Monday, October 5, subject to any further exchange notice. This is a calendar guide, not a report of trading that has already occurred.
The timetable to keep
- Friday, October 2: declared NSE capital-market trading holiday.
- Saturday and Sunday, October 3–4: weekend.
- Monday, October 5: next scheduled regular equities session.
NSE’s market-timings page lists the normal equities session as 09:15 to 15:30 IST. Pre-open and closing sessions have separate timings; the normal-session hours should not be used as a label for every exchange activity.
How to read prices during the break
CapKet explanation: A displayed quote needs a trading date and timestamp. If an app shows a previous session’s closing value during the holiday, that is historical information, not evidence of a new Friday opening price. Check the instrument and exchange as well as the number before sharing it as a market update.
For a dated example, our September 30 Nifty 50 close report remains a record of that session. It should not be relabelled as an October 2 quote.
What this guide does not establish
The cited circular covers NSE’s capital-market segment. It does not by itself confirm the timetable for BSE, MCX, GIFT Nifty or overseas exchanges. Trading holidays and settlement arrangements also need separate verification; this report does not assign a settlement date to any transaction.
Before relying on an order entered during the break, ask your broker when it will be sent to the exchange and whether its price or validity needs review. No broker-specific order-handling rule was checked here.
