India’s Nifty 50 finished September 30 at 22,620.45 points, down 95.75 points, or 0.42%, according to the National Stock Exchange. The close followed a session in which the benchmark first opened below its previous finish, then traded above it before ending lower.

A recovery that did not last
The opening gap was 51.20 points lower, calculated from NSE’s open and previous close. At the session high, the index was 93.15 points above that previous close. Its eventual finish was only 25.25 points above the day’s low. These comparisons describe the trading path; they do not establish why investors bought or sold.
Breadth was softer, but not one-way
NSE’s wider market statistics at 16:00 IST recorded 1,740 advances, 1,813 declines and 132 unchanged securities out of 3,685 traded. That count covers the exchange’s displayed universe, not only the 50 index constituents. Declines exceeded advances by 73, a much more specific description than saying every part of the market fell.
For the separate BSE benchmark, see our Sensex closing report. Different baskets and weightings mean their percentage changes should not be assumed identical.
