MUMBAI, 16 September 2026 — Nifty 50 opened Wednesday at 23,201.60 points, up 83.00 points, or 0.36%, from Tuesday’s 23,118.60 close. The opening figure is corroborated by dated BusinessLine coverage carried on TradingView and Yahoo Finance’s daily record.
The subsequent Yahoo Finance observation at 14:32:29 IST was 23,229.75, a gain of 111.15 points, or 0.48%, from Tuesday. That later value was 28.15 points above the opening; it is an afternoon snapshot, not Wednesday’s final close.
Opening gain survived, but the path was uneven
The reported session range at the snapshot ran from 23,116.10 to 23,284.75. The low was 2.50 points below Tuesday’s finish, meaning the initial positive gap did not prevent a brief move into negative territory. The later quote was 55.00 points below the observed high.
The opening move and the afternoon return therefore tell different parts of the story. The first measures the change across the overnight break; the second includes subsequent trading and remains subject to change before the close.
Recovery measured against Tuesday
The dated opening report records Tuesday’s 279.50-point decline. The afternoon gain had recovered about 39.8% of that loss, leaving 168.35 points to regain the preceding 23,398.10 close. Monday was a scheduled NSE holiday, so that earlier completed session was Friday, not Monday.
NSE Indices constructs Nifty 50 using free-float market capitalization across 50 companies. An index advance does not establish that all constituents or smaller Indian shares rose.
Still awaiting the finish
NSE’s normal cash market is scheduled to close at 15:30 IST. Any later final result requires a separate closing observation. All values here are index points, and this timestamped report is not a continuously updating price feed.
