LONDON, 14 September 2026 — London’s main equity benchmarks closed in opposite directions on Monday. Google Finance displayed the FTSE 100 at 10,697.57, up 47.13 points or 0.44%, and the FTSE 250 at 23,834.48, down 141.25 points or 0.59%, in readings timestamped at 16:35 BST.

FTSE 100 closing range

The large-cap FTSE 100 opened at 10,650.92, reached a session high of 10,734.85 and recorded a low of 10,650.92. Its positive close showed large-cap shares retaining a gain after moving above the opening level.

FTSE 250 closing range

The domestically focused FTSE 250 opened at its session high of 23,976.04, fell as low as 23,771.36 and closed at 23,834.48. The close remained above the day’s low but below both the opening level and previous close.

What the divergence shows

The opposing moves indicate that Monday’s result was not uniform across the London market. The FTSE 100’s multinational and sector composition differs from the mid-cap FTSE 250, so the two benchmarks can respond differently to currency, commodity and domestic economic conditions.
