Rithm Capital’s reported earnings rebounded in the third quarter of 2026, while its separate earnings-available-for-distribution measure declined from the previous quarter. In the 23 October release, the company reported US$0.38 per diluted common share under GAAP and US$0.55 on its non-GAAP distributable basis.
Two measures, different movements
| Measure | Disclosure | Official evidence |
|---|---|---|
| GAAP earnings attributable to common stockholders | US$217.1 million, versus US$20.2 million in Q2. | Source document |
| GAAP net income per diluted common share | US$0.38, versus US$0.04 in Q2. | Source document |
| Earnings available for distribution, non-GAAP | US$315.3 million, versus US$338.9 million in Q2. | Source document |
| Distributable earnings per diluted common share | US$0.55, versus US$0.60 in Q2. | Source document |
| Book value per common share | US$12.51 at 30 September 2026; a balance-sheet measure, not quarterly earnings. | Source document |
Why the numbers are not interchangeable
GAAP means the accounting standards used for the reported financial statements. Rithm’s non-GAAP measure adjusts that accounting result for specified valuation movements, depreciation, transaction-related expenses, deferred taxes and other items set out in its reconciliation.
The release’s reconciliation starts with US$217.126 million of GAAP earnings attributable to common stockholders and arrives at US$315.298 million of earnings available for distribution. These are two views of the same reporting period, not two separate profits that can be added together.
The comparison here is quarter on quarter. It must not be described as year-on-year growth, and the prior quarter’s adjusted US$0.60 cannot be used as the comparator for the current reported US$0.38.
What distributable earnings do not promise
Despite the name, earnings available for distribution does not mean that the same amount has been paid or must be paid as a dividend. Rithm states that the measure is not a substitute for GAAP net income or operating cash flow and does not guarantee its ability to pay future dividends.
For a clearer assessment, read both measures, their reconciliations and cash generation. The financial tables are unaudited, and book value should not be confused with a market quotation or a promised selling price.
