Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a 29% rise in standalone second-quarter profit to ₹4,212 crore in its 24 October 2026 release, even as its net interest margin narrowed. The results require two distinctions: bank-only figures are not group-wide results, and higher profit does not mean every profitability measure improved.

Standalone profit covers the bank itself. Consolidated profit brings in group subsidiaries and other entities within the consolidation perimeter. The ₹5,645 crore group figure should not be described as the bank-only profit, or compared with a standalone prior-year amount.

Why the margin deserves attention

Net interest income is interest earned less interest paid. Net interest margin expresses net interest income against the relevant interest-earning asset base; it is not the same as final net-profit margin. The bank said margin moderation was largely connected with FCNR(B) deposit mobilisation during the quarter.

The year-on-year decline from 4.54% to 4.31% is 0.23 percentage points, or 23 basis points. Higher net interest income can coexist with a lower margin when the underlying earning-asset base or funding mix changes.

Asset quality is a separate check

Gross non-performing assets were 1.04% and net non-performing assets 0.24% at 30 September. These are the disclosed asset-quality ratios, not a promise that future credit losses will remain unchanged.

The quarter ended in September; 24 October is the announcement date. No live share-price reaction, dividend entitlement or assured investment gain is inferred from the release.
