IDFC FIRST Bank reported standalone profit after tax of ₹1,044.60 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, up 196.5% from ₹352.31 crore a year earlier. However, profit fell 2.8% from ₹1,074.96 crore in the June quarter.

The bank’s investor presentation rounds the latest profit to ₹1,045 crore. The annual increase and sequential decline are both important: a large improvement against the year-earlier period does not mean profit increased against the immediately preceding quarter.

Interest income is not the same as profit

Net interest income, or NII, is interest earned less interest paid. It is not total revenue or profit after tax, which also reflects other income, operating costs, provisions and tax. The NII increase therefore should not be read as an equivalent increase in every measure of profitability.

Net interest margin measures NII relative to interest-earning assets. The comparison with June needs its qualification: the presentation’s 5.90% previous-quarter figure excludes interest on an income-tax refund. It is not an unqualified reported comparator.

What the asset-quality figures show

Non-performing assets, or NPAs, are loans classified as non-performing under the applicable rules. Gross and net NPA ratios measure different positions, with net NPA reflecting provisions. Neither ratio alone provides a complete account of lending risk.

These are the bank’s standalone results, not consolidated group profit. The limited review of unaudited quarterly figures is also distinct from an annual audit. Readers can track subsequent margin, income and asset-quality disclosures without treating this quarter as a forecast or an investment recommendation.
