JPMorganChase reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $15.3 billion, up 6% from a year earlier, in an October 13 filing. Diluted earnings per share were $5.57. The practical reading point is the difference between those reported results and the bank’s separately presented figures excluding investment securities losses.

Reported and adjusted results, side by side

Measure Q3 2026 / comparison
Period Quarter ended September 30, 2026
Reported net income $15.3 billion; up 6% year on year
Reported diluted EPS $5.57, versus $5.07 in Q3 2025
Net income excluding the significant item $15.8 billion; non-GAAP
EPS excluding the significant item $5.75; non-GAAP
Investment securities losses $658 million before tax; $498 million after tax

Why the two profit figures differ

The filing identifies $658 million of net investment securities losses in Corporate. Their after-tax effect was $498 million. Removing that effect raises net income from $15.3 billion to $15.8 billion and adds $0.18 to reported EPS, taking it from $5.57 to $5.75. Totals are rounded in the release.

The excluded-item presentation is a non-GAAP measure: it adjusts the result calculated under standard accounting rules. It is not a second amount of profit earned on top of reported net income. A reader comparing this quarter with another bank or an earlier period should check which basis each number uses.

Business activity and the limits of the report

JPMorgan’s reported revenue was $50.2 billion. On its managed, non-GAAP business-line basis, the bank said Markets revenue increased 15% year on year: Equity Markets rose 49%, while Fixed Income Markets declined 4%. These are business-line revenue comparisons, not changes in a stock-market index or the bank’s share price.
