Infosys announced an enterprise AI research collaboration with Columbia University on October 1. It includes a Columbia Engineering-led centre intended to help businesses develop and use generative and agentic AI. The development is a research partnership, not a disclosed customer order or a measured profit increase.

What the research covers

According to Infosys, the programme has three themes: AI-enabled experiences and business processes; responsible and sustainable AI; and marketing applications. Planned work includes workshops, joint innovation sessions and research with clients.

The Infosys Topaz–Columbia University Enterprise AI Center is located at Infosys’s One World Trade Center office in New York, the announcement says.

What would make this useful to a business?

CapKet explanation: Generative AI produces content or responses, while an agentic system may carry out a sequence of tasks using tools. Testing either in a business setting requires more than an impressive demonstration: teams need to ask whether the output is accurate, whether access is appropriate and how errors are detected.

For example, a marketing assistant that drafts a message and a system authorised to send it create different control questions. Who reviews a draft? Who can approve distribution? What evidence records the decision? These are illustrative questions for evaluating deployment, not claims about products already delivered by the new centre.

The commercial evidence is still to come

The release does not state an investment amount, committed revenue or measured client savings. CapKet has not independently verified research outputs or customer results. It would therefore be premature to convert the announcement into a revenue forecast.

What to watch: Specific research findings, the applications tested and the method used to measure results would make useful follow-up evidence. A named goal is different from a completed outcome.
