ICICI Bank’s September-quarter results show higher profit, but two different profit figures need to be read on their own accounting bases. The bank reported standalone profit after tax of ₹14,843 crore, up 20.1% year on year. Consolidated profit, covering the group rather than the bank alone, was ₹16,333 crore, up 22.3%.
The results released on 17 October cover the quarter ended 30 September 2026, the second quarter of FY2026–27. Net interest income (NII)—interest earned less interest paid—rose 17.7% to ₹25,339 crore on the standalone basis. NII is not total income or net profit.

Profit growth is not the same as margin expansion
The reported net interest margin, an annualised measure of net interest earnings relative to interest-earning assets, was lower even as NII increased. The year-earlier comparison fell by 0.12 percentage point: 4.18% − 4.30% = −0.12 percentage point, or 12 basis points. A growing rupee amount and a lower percentage margin can therefore coexist; they measure different things.
Keep the bank and the group separate
Standalone accounts describe the bank itself. Consolidated accounts include relevant group entities and consolidation adjustments. The ₹14,843 crore and ₹16,333 crore figures are not competing versions of the same standalone number, and should not be added together. The presentation expresses amounts in ₹billion: multiplying by 100 converts them to ₹crore, so ₹148.43 billion becomes ₹14,843 crore.
