What the adjustment removes

The $0.07-per-share adjustment adds back restructuring costs. Reported and adjusted comparisons should remain separate: an adjusted figure is a supplementary company measure, not a replacement for the financial statements.

Caterpillar attributed sales growth mainly to volume and pricing. Operating profit also included $128 million of tariff recoveries, so it should not be read as entirely recurring improvement. The adjusted reconciliation removes restructuring, not those recoveries.

Keep cash separate from profit

Enterprise operating cash flow was $4.4 billion. Cash flow, earnings per share and operating margin are not interchangeable: margin relates operating profit to sales, while EPS relates shareholder earnings to shares.

Subsequent filings will show whether the improvement persists. This report does not establish an analyst-expectations beat, a share-price reaction or a future earnings outcome.

Primary evidence: Caterpillar’s 29 October announcement and its linked financial release. The two are the same issuer’s evidence, not independent corroboration.
