Axis Bank’s standalone September-quarter profit rose 37.6% year on year to ₹7,003.28 crore. The result is not just an interest-income story: the net provisions and contingencies charge, excluding tax, fell to ₹1,693.74 crore from ₹3,547.04 crore, making the lower charge an important part of the comparison.
The board approved the unaudited results on 17 October for the quarter ended 30 September 2026. The bank’s release rounds profit growth to 38% and net interest income (NII) growth to 12%. The table keeps the signed filing’s precise profit and provision amounts separate from those rounded release figures.

Show the calculation, not only the headline
Using the filing’s profit figures, (₹7,003.28 crore − ₹5,089.64 crore) ÷ ₹5,089.64 crore × 100 = approximately 37.6% growth. Against the preceding quarter’s ₹7,113.92 crore, however, profit fell about 1.6%. The direction depends on the comparison period; neither should be labelled simply “growth” without a time basis.
NII, margin and provisions are different measures
NII is interest earned minus interest paid, not total revenue or net profit. Provisions are charges recorded against credit and other risks; the lower charge supports the profit comparison but does not prove that future losses are eliminated. The bank’s reported NIM is 3.36%. Its separately disclosed 3.47% figure excludes the FCNR(B) impact and must not replace the reported number.
What to watch
The useful next checks are whether interest earnings, deposit funding and loan quality remain consistent in later official results. Gross and net NPA ratios measure problem loans on different bases; they are not promises that every loan will be repaid. This report does not establish an analyst-consensus beat or miss or forecast a share-price move.
Related explanation: why M&T’s total profit and per-share earnings moved differently. Its US reporting measures are not this Indian bank’s figures.
