Apple now lists India among the countries supporting Apple Pay, while its bank directory identifies Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. The practical starting point for a customer is therefore card eligibility, rather than assuming that all Indian-issued cards can be added.

The country-support page carries a September 30, 2026 publication date. CapKet checked it and the participating-bank directory at approximately 14:56 IST. Apple’s general warning says some cards from a participating bank may still be unsupported; customers should ask their issuer.

Three checks before relying on it

  1. The card: Check the exact product and network with the bank. A bank’s inclusion is not a blanket statement about its whole card range.
  2. The device: Apple’s setup guidance requires a compatible device with current software, an Apple Account, a supported card and device authentication such as a passcode or biometrics.
  3. The checkout: Confirm that the intended shop, app or website accepts Apple Pay. Country-level availability does not prove acceptance at a particular merchant.

What adding a card involves

Apple’s instructions direct iPhone users to add their eligible card through Wallet and complete any verification requested by the issuer. Additional information or a bank app may be needed. Follow the official setup route rather than sending card details to someone offering unofficial activation assistance.

What this changes—and what it does not establish

CapKet analysis: The documented change creates another potential payment option for eligible customers. Its usefulness will depend on the overlap between supported cards, compatible devices and places where those customers actually spend. Those are separate questions, so a launch headline is not a substitute for checking all three.

This report does not establish nationwide merchant coverage, a UPI integration, support for other named Indian banks, or a commercial impact on Axis Bank’s earnings. CapKet has not tested a transaction. Readers should use the official documentation for current eligibility and consult their issuer about an individual card.
