Nifty 50 was displayed at 22,231.80, down 371.25 points or 1.64%, on NSE’s October 8, 2026 screen. The index header carried a 3:30 PM IST timestamp. At the 3:51 PM check, the exchange marked normal trading closed and showed 47 declining constituents against three advancing and none unchanged.
Why the breadth is the useful detail
The constituent count shows that the weakness was widely distributed within this 50-stock basket in the observed screen. It is more informative than the index change alone, but it does not establish the breadth of every NSE-listed company or identify the cause of the move.
A count of advancing and declining shares is not a measure of how much each constituent contributed to the index. Readers should not treat the 47-to-three count as proof that all shares fell equally or that each stock had the same influence on the headline level.
Read the data label before comparing prices
The equity-market table labels the displayed index level as LTP. Its indicative-close field was blank in this observation. CapKet is preserving that distinction: this is a post-session exchange snapshot, not a separately verified final closing bulletin or futures settlement.
Nifty 50 is reported in index points, not rupees. The change is measured against the screen’s previous-close value of 22,603.05. No futures contract month, options quote or GIFT Nifty level has been substituted for this cash-index reading.
What remains unverified
This report does not attribute the decline to the GST Council, interest rates, overseas markets or investor flows without evidence. For a distinct policy development, see CapKet’s October 7 RBI report; that announcement alone does not prove what drove today’s trading.
For subsequent comparisons, use the same instrument, date and data field. A later official closing record should be identified explicitly rather than silently replacing this historical observation.
Primary evidence and timing
NSE’s Nifty 50 equity-market screen checked October 8, 2026 at 3:51 PM IST; index header and change cross-checked on NSE’s Nifty 50 tracker around 3:50 PM IST. The tracker’s unloaded body fields were not treated as zero data. No trade recommendation or forecast is implied.
