The Moderna Nasdaq-100 addition is now reflected in Nasdaq’s public October 9, 2026 start-of-day constituent list. The index operator had announced that Moderna would replace Warner Bros. Discovery before the market opened that day.

The announcement and the effective list

Nasdaq’s October 1 notice named Moderna, ticker MRNA, as the incoming constituent and Warner Bros. Discovery, ticker WBD, as the outgoing one. CapKet subsequently checked the operator’s dated weighting page, where the public company list includes “MODERNA INC CS” with MRNA.

This separates a planned change from evidence that the incoming name appears in the effective list. The public check did not establish a constituent weight, the value of any fund’s purchases or a share-price move. Those are separate claims requiring their own dated evidence.

Why index membership matters—and its limits

The Nasdaq-100 is not a list of every Nasdaq-listed company and is not a technology-only index. Nasdaq describes it as a benchmark of large non-financial companies listed on its market. Membership tells readers about the benchmark’s composition, not a new company earnings result or product approval.

For someone holding a product that references the index, the relevant follow-up is that product’s own holdings, mandate and implementation disclosures. Different products and derivatives should not be assumed to hold identical positions. This report does not infer forced buying, a guaranteed investment return or a particular fund’s trade from inclusion alone.

Evidence and what remains unchecked

CapKet read Nasdaq’s official change notice at 7:04 PM IST and checked its October 9 start-of-day constituent page at 7:07 PM IST on October 9, 2026. Both are operator evidence from Nasdaq, not independent accounts. No paywalled weighting data was accessed.

Keep this constituent update distinct from an index level or a futures quotation. CapKet’s Micro Nasdaq-100 futures explainer covers a different question: contract size and trading risk. Neither report supplies a forecast for Moderna shares.
