SYDNEY, 16 September 2026 — Australia’s All Ordinaries finished Wednesday at 8,874.50 points, up 25.20 points, or 0.28%, from Tuesday’s 8,849.30 close. Yahoo Finance’s completed daily observation and Investing.com’s 16 September record agree on the final level.
Only part of the prior decline recovered
The index had lost 74.60 points on Tuesday, having ended Monday at 8,923.90. Wednesday recovered approximately 33.8% of that decline. It still needed another 49.40 points merely to return to Monday’s finish, leaving a two-session decline of about 0.55%.
That distinction matters when assessing a rebound: the direction changed for one completed day, but the index had not yet restored its earlier level. A return to the same numerical starting point would also require a slightly different percentage gain from the percentage loss that produced the decline.
Where the session ended
Wednesday’s reported low was 8,841.70 and its high was 8,879.10. The final value sat 32.80 points above the low and only 4.60 below the high, within a 37.40-point daily range. This locates the close near the top of the observed range without making an unsupported claim about buying pressure or trading volume.
S&P Dow Jones Indices designs the All Ordinaries to cover 500 large eligible Australian companies, with liquidity not used as an inclusion criterion. That broader coverage distinguishes it from the ASX 200, but does not turn it into an equal-weighted measure or a count of advancing shares.
The reference for the next session
The Yahoo confirming update was timestamped 17:18:44 AEST, after the scheduled Sydney closing auction. The new closing benchmark is therefore 8,874.50. Future reports should compare against that completed result while preserving the separate morning observation. These are cash price-index points, not a fund unit price or a dividend-inclusive total return.
