NatWest Group reported £1.5 billion of attributable profit for the third quarter of 2026, with earnings per share of 19.3 pence, in its 30 October results update.
The bank also reported return on tangible equity of 21.6% and capital generation before distributions of 71 basis points. These figures answer separate questions and should not be combined into one return measure.

Profit, equity returns and capital are different
Attributable profit is the earnings measure identified by the bank for shareholders. It should not be substituted for operating profit before tax, total income or cash flow. Earnings per share expresses earnings on a per-share basis; it is not the cash dividend declared for the period.
RoTE compares profitability with tangible equity under the bank's calculation. The 21.6% figure is not a promise that an investor will earn 21.6% from holding the shares. A shareholder's return also depends on the purchase price, distributions and changes in market value.
Keep distributions separate
Capital generation before distributions is specifically a pre-distribution measure. It does not by itself state the bank's final capital position after dividends, buybacks or other movements. One basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point, so 71 basis points equals 0.71 percentage point; it is not £71 million.

This report does not infer a share-price reaction, future interest-rate path or an explanation for changes in staffing. Those require their own evidence.
