HDFC Bank’s standalone net profit for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 was ₹19,509.96 crore, compared with ₹18,641.28 crore a year earlier. Its 17 October results release puts the increase at 4.7%. For readers comparing earnings headlines, the important distinction is between that reported result, a bank-defined comparison excluding treasury gains, and the wider group’s profit.

Why the two growth rates are different

The bank says profit after tax, or PAT, grew approximately 12.6% when treasury trading gains are excluded. That is an alternative comparison supplied by HDFC Bank, not a replacement for the reported result or a CapKet earnings forecast. Treasury trading gains were lower than a year earlier, as the source table shows. The two growth rates therefore answer different questions.

Net interest income is interest earned less interest paid. It is different from net revenue, which includes other income, and neither figure is net profit after expenses, provisions and tax. The net interest margin percentages also use different denominators: total assets versus assets that earn interest. They should not be treated as two conflicting figures.

How to read the result without mixing figures

Standalone means the bank’s own accounts; consolidated means accounts for the wider group. The rounded group PAT in the release must not be substituted into the standalone year-on-year calculation. Amounts quoted in billions in the release are converted to crore using 1 billion = 100 crore; the table identifies rounded amounts separately from the signed statement’s exact PAT.

The lower gross non-performing-asset ratio describes loan quality at the reporting date. It is not a guarantee against future defaults. This report does not claim an earnings beat or miss, establish a stock-price reaction, or predict investment returns.

For the earlier balance-sheet snapshot, see CapKet’s HDFC Bank deposit and advances update. That earlier report retains its original date and is not the new earnings release.
