Ameris Bancorp reported net income of $116.1 million for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, compared with $106.0 million a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share rose to $1.73 from $1.54, according to its 22 October results release.

The quarterly improvement should not be confused with the nine-month comparison. Reported profit for January–September was $278.0 million, below $303.8 million in the same period of 2025.

What the rounded EPS does not tell you

The issuer’s tables use thousands of US dollars. Dividing 116,093 by 1,000 gives reported net income of $116.093 million; the headline rounds that to $116.1 million. The adjusted total is $115.990 million. Reported and adjusted diluted EPS both round to $1.73, but that does not make the underlying profit figures identical.

Adjusted measures are the company’s non-GAAP presentation, meaning they apply exclusions to standard-accounting results. They supplement reported earnings rather than replace them. Comparisons should use the same basis and period on both sides, especially when a prior quarter contains unusual items.

Annualized growth is not the actual quarterly rate

The $173.1 million increase in loans is a dollar change during the quarter. The release expresses the associated rate on an annualized basis. Calling that a 3.1% increase during the quarter would overstate what the stated percentage represents.

Net interest margin measures net interest income relative to average interest-earning assets, generally on an annualized basis. It is not the bank’s bottom-line profit margin. It was higher than a year earlier but slightly lower than June. Readers should therefore keep the year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter comparisons separate rather than describing every measure as improving.
